SOAP 12/23/2011; John 16:13

Today's reading: John 15,16,17,18

S) "13 But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come."

John 16:13 (NASB)

O) The Holy Spirit is the link we have to the Father in heaven. When we hear the voice of God, we're hearing from the Holy Spirit. Understanding that relationship sheds new light on our true dependence on the Holy Spirit, in following and serving God, according to His will.

A) Learning to recognize the voice of the Holy Spirit is the first step. But, just as crucial, is taking the leap to act on what I hear. I test my hearing by acting on my perceptions. The more I do this, the more accurately and surely I will know His voice. Anytime I am acting in response and obedience to the Holy Spirit, then I am assured that it's what the Father really wants.

P) Father, I want to be obedient to Your will. Holy Spirit, speak to me and help me be obedient sooner than later. I want to be faithful with Your word and I want You to continue to use me for Your will. Give me assurance that I am hearing from You and increase my discernment. Help me build my faith by action, and not just by petition or study. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
