SOAP 08/23/2011; Jeremiah 32:39

Today's reading: Jeremiah 31, 32; 1 John 4

S)"39 and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me always, for their own good and for the good of their children after them. "
Jeremiah 32:39 (NASB)

O) Any promise for me and for my children is a great promise. There is nothing more important to me than my family's continual relationship with God. The key to this verse is, I think, the realization that the fear of God is for our own good. God doesn't make rules just for the sake of exercising His sovereignty. He's trying to protect His children.

A) I want to be single-minded in my pursuit of God and my relationship with Him. I heard it said that, "rules without relationship, always leads to rebellion." When I was redeemed and reborn in Christ, God gave me a new heart and a new way. It is up to me to keep my relationship with Him, choosing to fear God, so that it will be good for me and my children after me.

P) Father, thank You for renewal. You didn't simply change me, or help me improve myself; You created me new. God, I am easily distracted sometimes. I get distracted from my relationship with You. Holy Spirit, draw me close and let me feel Your presence, God. Throughout my day, I want our relationship to be at the forefront of my mind. I want to talk to You more often, and hear You more often. I don't want to take our relationship for granted, Lord. Thank You for this one heart, this one way; help me to not become double-minded. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
